The Sweet Escape

If I could escape…
The concept of escapism is full of contradictions and yet, because of that, it gives us so much insight into what it means to be human. We get bored, curious, are hopeful or full of despair. Sometimes we just want to get away, and sometimes we want to get even closer to something or someone.

Dreaming of different places, real or made up, is a way to escape the daily reality. Escapism could also be an act of resistance in uncertain times.

The exhibition The Sweet Escape provides diverse perspectives on the broad scope of escapism. Some born out of fantasy, and some from fear of the present and future. 

With works by:
Frank Ammerlaan, Marinus Boezem, Harm van den Dorpel, Alicia Framis, David Haines, Jeroen Jongeleen, Jan Robert Leegte, Tabor Robak, Rafaël Rozendaal and Dennis Rudolph.
