Tribute to Marijke De Roover and crowdfunding for her legacy
Marijke De Roover (1990 - 2026) left us far too soon, leaving an enormous absence in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
Join us at KIOSK (Ghent) on Saturday, 29 August, at 3 p.m. for a tribute to Marijke De Roover: YOU & HER (tribute).
Address: Louis Pasteurlaan 2, 9000 Ghent.
You are invited to contribute in whatever way feels right to you: by reading a text, sharing a personal anecdote or story, giving a performance, singing a song, or offering any other gesture that celebrates her life and memory.
Don’t be shy: Marijke would not tolerate it.
If you would like to contribute to the ceremony and require specific technical assistance, please email Simon Delobel with some details about your contribution.
The commemoration will be followed by a drink at Marijke’s favourite bar, Fatima, which will be open from 4 p.m.
Do You Hear The People Sing?
Help us support Marijke’s family as they take responsibility for her artistic legacy.
Marijke described herself as a part-time professional karaoke singer and meme connoisseur, though she became widely known for her queer and feminist performance practice. With wit, humour and remarkable generosity, her artistic work explored love, romance, the nuclear family, feminism, motherhood, the ethics of reproduction, and compulsory heteronormativity under late capitalism. She made work that was so funny and at the same time incisive, leaving a lasting mark on contemporary art and on feminist and LGBTQIA+ communities.
Today, her family has chosen to take on the responsibility of caring for her artistic estate. It is a labour of love, but also a significant undertaking. We're raising 10,000 € in seed funding to help preserve, archive and responsibly manage Marijke's artistic legacy. These funds will support the careful cataloguing of her work, the development of her archive, and the practical work needed to ensure that her art remains accessible for future generations.
Every contribution, large or small, will help keep Marijke's work alive, in conversation, and continuing to inspire others: https://gofund.me/f37035893
