Mass

Forged in stellar explosions and refined through billions of years of radioactive transformation from uranium into lead, this material embodies a story of profound evolution. Carrying the extraordinary mass of its cosmological history, lead ultimately becomes a guardian for our fragile bodies against the very radiation from which it emerged. Mass is not merely a physical property, but the principle through which matter gives shape to the world. It reveals the ordered systems and geometries that weave the fabric of our existence within the cosmos.

Rather than imposing an image upon the material, Ammerlaan enters into a dialogue with it, responding to its own logic, tendencies and memory. Every material possesses its own intelligence, carrying within it the condensed history of its formation. The work emerges through an exchange with these inherent qualities rather than through the execution of a predetermined form. Lead resists not through rigidity but through its capacity to yield; its softness is not a weakness but the condition of its strength. Its form is the memory of matter behaving over time.
