Upstream Gallery is proud to present bronze works by Amol K Patil (IN, 1987) in the gallery's private viewing space.
Amol K Patil is a performance and visual artist. His body of work is based on the hierarchical Indian caste system. He focuses on social inequality within this system, particularly on the Dalits, the casteless people who belong to the lowest social classes.
Through his work, which comprises sculptures, drawings, and videos, he conveys the harsh conditions they endure. He emphasises their invisible place in the city, with hands and feet symbolising the labour they perform.
Patil’s works have been shown at Museum De Pont, Tilburg (2024-2025), Gwangju Biennale, Korea (2024), Hayward Gallery, London (2023), the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Kochi (2022- 2023), Documenta fifteen, Kassel (2022), Yokohama Triennale, Yokohama (2020), Goethe- Institute / Max Mueller Bhavan, Delhi (2019), The Showroom, London (2018), Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm (2017), Centre Pompidou, Paris (2017), Pune Biennale Habit-co Habit, Pune, (2017), Dakar Biennale, Dakar (2016), Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2015), ParaSite, Hong Kong (2014), and Kadist Art Foundation, Paris (2013).
