Performance 'l'Uomo Volante' van Marinus Boezem in de Oude Kerk

Gekleed in een soort vliegenierspak, hier en daar beplakt met een veertje en wat ansichtkaarten, werd Marinus Boezem in 1979 een vliegende man (l’Uomo Volante) in de Vleeshal te Middelburg. Met behulp van touwen over zijn schouders was hij in balans met een spiegel die exact hetzelfde gewicht als hemzelf had. Op het moment dat het te zwaar werd, liet de kunstenaar de touwen los en viel de spiegel naar achteren. Enkele seconden leek het alsof Boezem omhoog vloog, waarna de spiegel in scherven op de grond viel. Het beeld van Boezem was vervlogen en het gotische gewelf van de Vleeshal werd fragmentarisch zichtbaar.
37 jaar later, wordt de performance opnieuw uitgevoerd, ditmaal onder het gotische gewelf van de Oude Kerk. Op 14 januari 2017 zal l’Uomo Volante nogmaals vervliegen in het bijzijn van de kunstenaar. De re-enactment is een eenmalige kans om een sleutelwerk uit Boezems oeuvre te ervaren.
De tentoonstelling in De Oude Kerk, met nieuw werk van de kunstenaar, loopt nog tot 26 maart!

Dressed in a sort of aviator suit, here and there pasted with bird's feathers and postcards, Marinus Boezem became the flying man (l'uomo volante) in 1979 in the Vleeshal, Middelburg (nl). With the help of strings over his shoulders he balanced a mirror that had the exact weight of himself. When the mirror got to heavy he dropped it and it fell backwards. For a moment it looked as if the artist was flyinig in the sky. The following moment the mirror smashed to the floor in pieces and the image of Boezem flying was bygone. The Gothic ceiling of the Vleeshal was now fragmetarily reflected in the sharded pieces of mirror.
37 years later, this performance will be carried out once more, this time underneath the Gothic ceiling of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. On Januari 14 l'Uomo Volante will fly once more in the company of the artist himself. This re-enactment is an unique chance to experience the artwork which is a keypiece in the ouevre of the artist.
The exhibition in the Oude Kerk, with new work of the artist, is still on show, until March 26!
