Marinus Boezem in Space Journey at the Kröller-Müller Museum
Marinus Boezem is part of Space Journey at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, a presentation of sculptures, videos and works on paper that explore our relationship with the universe and the cosmos. From floating between heaven and earth to extraterrestrial life, the exhibition shows how artists have translated their fascination with infinity and with Earth's place among the planets into their work.
Boezem's Della Scultura & La Luce (1985), which is also the exhibition's lead image, takes the form of an open blue box with gold hinges: its lid holds a star chart with constellations, its base a relief map of mountains and landscape. Heaven and earth are literally folded into a single object, a gesture that runs through Boezem's practice, in which air, light and the elements become sculptural material.
