Jan Robert Leegte is part of Paris Photo 2025 with Office Impart, opening on Wednesday 12 November!

Leegte will be presenting two new works, Wanderer (2025) and Ornament (2025). 

Wanderer (2025)

Wanderer is an autonomous, digital flâneur, an internet-based entity that roams the map of our physical world through an endless sequence of directional choices, recorded immutably on the blockchain and visualised through web-based map services.

Drawing on the Situationist practice of the dérive, the act of drifting through urban environments, this work reimagines the wandering artist as a persistent algorithmic agent, animated not by human will but by server logic and blockchain transactions.

While walking, Wanderer reflects on the early promise of the Internet as an open and free space, at a time when that openness is increasingly being enclosed.

Wanderer comes in two parts, a dual screen installation and an online open edition of geo-located poems. The wanderer can be viewed online and the poems can be acquired at https://wanderer.leegte.org.

The Wanderer online edition curated by Sam Spike will release with Forma and premiere at 11 November 2025 5pm CEST.

Ornament (2025)

In dialogue with Wanderer, Ornament presents a new material iteration of my long-standing investigation into ornamentation. This series (11 pieces) consists of acrylic plots on oak panel, each based on generative algorithms that produce complex bevelling structures, referencing both the aesthetics of GUI design and history of ornamentation in interior architecture and panel painting. (wooden panels: Anything is Possible).

The Ornament panels will be installed as an environment surrounding Wanderer, evoking a scenography in which generative ornamentation becomes both backdrop and structural frame for the algorithmic dérive.
