The large LED screen in the Stedelijk Museum’s foyer offers a new program of video art, a mix of work by renowned artists and new, contemporary creators, Among which Marinus Boezem’s Het beademen van de beeldbuis (1971).

All works are drawn from the remarkable collection of the Stedelijk Museum, which was in the 70s one of the first art museums worldwide to recognize and collect video art and has since amassed a substantial collection. The Stedelijk Museum also regularly commissions new work from young creators.  

The new presentation comprises work by international and Dutch makers. Included in the selection, besides Marinus Boezem, are Ed van der Elsken’s iconic slide show Amsterdam (1974-1980), Richard Serra’s Railroad Turnbridge (1976), Marina Abramovic’s The Hero (For Antonio) (2001), Joan Jonas’ Brooklyn Bridge (1988) and Lawrence Weiner’s Blue Moon Over (2001). 

The longest video lasts 15 minutes, the shortest one minute. The full program lasts one hour.
