Harm van den Dorpel
Amsterdam, 1 Nov - 29 Nov '25
opening 1 november, 17.00 - 19.30
Upstream Gallery is proud to present a new exhibition by Harm van den Dorpel in the gallery’s private viewing space, opening concurrently with Noor Nuyten’s exhibition in the main gallery.
?Last summer, the artist’s latest NFT collection, Quantizer, launched on the platform Verse and sold out in the first presale. Van den Dorpel kept a few works from that series, three of which are now shown for the first time as a special edition in this exhibition. Each digital artwork is paired with a material snapshot in space. While Van den Dorpel has created physical versions of his NFTs before, this marks the first time they are presented as interconnected parts of a single whole.
Quantizer is a generative artwork. Every twelve seconds, a new composition is seeded directly from Ethereum block hashes, synchronising viewers worldwide in a shared visual experience. The work’s deliberate instability and absence of memory reflect Van den Dorpel’s broader artistic philosophy, emphasising the inherent impermanence and poetic potential of generative digital art.
