Biography

In 1959-1968, by lack of a computer, Vera Molnar applied a programmatic way of thinking to her artistic production. She made up simple programmes, which she could calculate mentally, and could subsequently produce manually. Geometry and grids provided a virtual quality to her work, while she subtly modified her algorithm by increasing levels of randomness; the impact at the micro level altered the macro and thus produced an oscillating pattern.
